Getting started
How to get the mallow wallet, create your first wallet, set up the app lock, and link your wallets to a mallow profile.
Getting the app
mallow wallet isn't on the App Store or Google Play yet. For now you need an invitation:
| Platform | How it's distributed | Minimum OS |
|---|---|---|
| iOS | TestFlight | iOS 16.0 |
| Android | Google Play closed testing | Android 8.0 |
To ask for one, join the waitlist at wallet-beta.mallow.art. The Join the waitlist link on wallet.mallow.art goes to the same place.
If a download link didn't come from mallow, it isn't the mallow wallet. See Recognizing scams.
The iOS and Android apps aren't identical. The iOS app leaves out buying, selling, minting, and swapping because of App Store rules. See What the iOS app leaves out.
Creating a wallet
Open the app and tap Create a new wallet. You then choose how the wallet's keys are made:
- Use a recovery phrase: the app generates a 12- or 24-word phrase on your device. Only you hold it, and it's the only way to restore the wallet.
- Continue with Apple or Continue with Google: the keys are rebuilt from your Apple or Google sign-in. There's no phrase to write down, and anyone who can complete that sign-in can rebuild the wallet.
The two differ in who is able to restore your wallet, so read Social sign-in is a different custody model before you choose.
With a recovery phrase
- Tap Use a recovery phrase, then Generate recovery phrase.
- The app shows 12 words. Turn on Use a 24-word recovery phrase if you want 24 instead.
- Write the words down in order. See Backing up your recovery phrase for how to store them.
- Tick I've saved my recovery phrase in a secure location and tap Continue.
- Choose which accounts to add. The first account is selected for you, with its Solana, Ethereum, and Tezos addresses. Tap Import wallets.
One phrase can hold many accounts, and you can add more of them later. See Adding wallets.
Already have a wallet?
Tap I already have a wallet on the first screen. You can sign in with Apple or Google again, or use a recovery phrase, a private key, a hardware wallet, or Seed Vault on a phone that has it. Each of these is covered in Adding wallets.
If the app finds wallet data left on the device by an earlier install, it opens on Welcome back instead. Restore wallet brings that wallet back. Start fresh erases it from the device, after which it can only be recovered with its recovery phrase.
First-run setup
Once your first wallet is added, the app asks you three things. You can change all three later in Settings.
- Biometrics. Tap Enable Face ID (or Touch ID, fingerprint, or face unlock, depending on your phone) to unlock the app with it, or Skip for now.
- PIN. Create a 6-digit PIN and enter it again to confirm. You can skip the PIN only if you turned biometrics on in the previous step. The app always has at least one lock.
- Notifications. Turn on notifications to hear about bids, offers, sales, and new work from artists you follow, or tap Not now.
Locks and gates explains what the lock protects and when the app asks for it again.
Finding your way around
The bar at the bottom has three tabs and one button. The tabs are icons without labels; from left to right:
- Home tab: the mallow feed, with your daily spotlight, curations, recommendations, and listings.
- Art tab: every artwork your wallets hold, across all three chains.
- Tokens tab: your token balances and their total value.
- The lightning bolt, on the right, opens quick actions: Transfer, Send, and Receive, plus Mint, Sell, and Swap on Android.
At the top, tap your account name to open the menu (wallets, profiles, offers, notifications, settings). The magnifying glass opens search, and the clock opens your recent activity.
Linking your wallet to a mallow profile
A wallet works without a profile, so you can hold, send, and receive straight away. A mallow profile is your public identity on mallow.art: a username, a picture, and the wallets that belong to it. The app asks for one when you like, follow, curate, or open notifications.
If you already have a profile
Add the wallet your profile uses, in any of the ways in Adding wallets. The app recognises the address and lists the profile for you:
- Tap your account name at the top of the screen.
- Tap Switch, then the Profiles tab.
- Tap your profile to use it.
If you need a new one
- Open Switch → Profiles and tap Create.
- Upload a profile picture. A banner is optional.
- Choose a username: 3–32 characters, lowercase letters, numbers, and underscores.
- Select the wallets to link, then tap Create profile.
- Optionally connect X, add a website, and verify an email address, then tap Save Profile.
Linking more wallets
A profile can link up to 5 wallets. To change them, open your profile, tap the three dots, choose Edit profile, and go to the wallet step.
- Only wallets the app can sign with can be linked. A watch-only address can't.
- A wallet belongs to one profile at a time. Wallets already linked to another profile aren't offered.
- A profile needs at least one wallet.
- Unlinking a wallet removes its artworks from the profile. It doesn't move or change the artworks themselves.
Everything on a profile is public. To remove it, use Settings → Security & Privacy → Delete profile. That deletes the profile record only; your wallets, artworks, listings, and offers stay as they are.
