Using the wallet
How to send, receive, swap, and stake in the mallow wallet, cast and download your art, and set your preferences.
Most of these actions start from the lightning-bolt button at the bottom right, or from the buttons at the top of the tokens tab.
Sending tokens
- Tap the lightning bolt, then Send. You can also swipe a token to the right on the tokens tab.
- Pick the token. The chain follows from the token: SOL and Solana tokens go to Solana addresses, ETH and ERC-20s to Ethereum addresses, XTZ and Tezos tokens to Tezos addresses.
- Enter the recipient, then tap Next.
- Enter the amount, or tap Half or Max, then tap Next.
- Check the recipient, network, and network fee on Confirm Send, then tap Send.
If you hold the token in more than one wallet, Your wallet shows which one is paying, and Switch changes it.
Entering the recipient
You can paste an address, scan a QR code, pick from Recent, or type:
| What you type | Works on |
|---|---|
| A wallet address | Solana, Ethereum, Tezos |
| A mallow username | Solana, Ethereum, Tezos. The app finds that user's wallet on the chain you're sending on |
A .sol name | Solana |
A .eth name | Ethereum |
The app rejects an address that isn't valid for the chain, including an Ethereum address whose capitalisation doesn't match its checksum, and it won't send to the wallet you're sending from.
Recipient warnings
Before you sign, the confirm step shows how many times you have sent to this address before, and warns you if the address looks unusual:
- A token account, not a wallet (Solana). You probably pasted the address of a token account instead of the wallet that owns it.
- A program account (Solana), or a contract (Ethereum, Tezos). It may not be able to receive what you're sending.
- An empty wallet. The address has never been used. That is normal for a new wallet, and also what a mistyped address looks like.
A warning doesn't block the send. It's there to make you check the address once more. Read the whole address, not only its first and last characters.
Ethereum gas
On an Ethereum send, the confirm step shows a Speed and an estimated wait. Tap Edit next to the network fee to change it:
- Low: cheaper, slower.
- Market: the current going rate.
- Advanced: set the max base fee, the priority fee, and the gas limit yourself.
Your choice is remembered for the next send. Every Ethereum transfer is simulated before you can sign it. See Transaction safety.
Speeding up or cancelling a pending Ethereum transaction
An Ethereum transaction that hasn't confirmed yet is listed under Pending in your activity (the clock at the top of the screen).
- Speed up resubmits it with a higher fee.
- Cancel submits a replacement transaction so that the original doesn't go through. It costs a small fee and isn't guaranteed: the original may confirm first.
If several transactions are waiting, they confirm in order, so an earlier one has to be cancelled before a later one can be. Solana and Tezos transactions have no pending state to manage this way.
Sending artwork
Open the artwork and tap Send artwork, or tap the lightning bolt, then Transfer. Enter the recipient the same way as for tokens and confirm. Artwork can be transferred on Solana and Ethereum; see Supported assets. A listed artwork has to be delisted first.
Receiving
Tap the lightning bolt, then Receive. The sheet lists the addresses of the account or profile you're using, with their chains. Each has a copy button and a QR button that opens a code for someone to scan.
Give out the address for the chain the asset is on. An address only receives assets from its own chain.
Swapping
Android only. The iOS app has no swap because of App Store rules.
Swaps trade one Solana token for another through Jupiter.
- Tap the lightning bolt, then Swap.
- Choose the token to Sell and the token to Buy, and enter an amount.
- Check the rate and the amount you'll receive. The quote refreshes on a timer.
- Tap Swap.
Swap settings has two controls. Slippage is how far the rate may move before the swap fails instead of completing; leave it on Auto unless a swap keeps failing. Priority Fee is covered below.
The swap fee is stated in the FAQ. Ethereum and Tezos tokens can't be swapped.
Staking SOL
Tap Stake at the top of the tokens tab. The sheet has Stake, Unstake, and Leaderboard tabs.
| Native | Liquid | |
|---|---|---|
| What you hold | A stake account with mallow's validator | mallowSOL in your wallet |
| Minimum | 1 SOL | None |
| Wait to activate | Until the current epoch ends (an epoch is about 2 days) | None |
| Getting SOL back | Unstake, wait for the epoch to end, then tap Claim | Unstake at any time, with no wait |
| On iOS | Yes | No |
On Android, choose Liquid or Native under Stake type. On iOS the sheet offers native staking only. mallowSOL you already hold still shows as a token on iOS and can be sent, but to unstake it you need Android or mallow.art.
Staking earns points toward the season's SMORES prize pool. Your standing is on the Leaderboard tab, and rewards you can collect appear under Your Rewards with a Claim button.
For how staking and the seasons work, see Staking, Native staking and mallowSOL.
Priority fee
A priority fee is a tip that makes Solana validators more likely to include your transaction when the network is busy. Set it in Settings → Preferences → Priority Fee:
| Option | Ceiling |
|---|---|
| Auto | Chosen from live network conditions |
| High | 0.001 SOL |
| Turbo | 0.01 SOL |
| Custom | Your own figure, up to 1 SOL |
The setting is the most a transaction can pay, and it applies to every Solana transaction the app builds. When a transaction fails because the network was too busy, the error offers Increase priority fee as a shortcut here.
Casting to a screen
Casting shows artworks you own or created on a TV or display.
- Open an artwork's three-dot menu and tap Cast to screen. An artist, collection, curation, or profile has a Cast option that queues all of your pieces in it.
- Pick the screen. Chromecast devices appear when your phone is on the same Wi-Fi. On iOS, choosing AirPlay asks you to start Screen Mirroring from Control Center and pick your Apple TV.
- Tap Cast.
Under Display Options you can choose Fit to Screen, Fill Screen, or Tile, and turn on Display artwork details and Display QR Code, which links to the artwork on mallow.art. Shuffle Artwork and Change Interval control the slideshow. While casting, Add to cast on any eligible artwork adds it to the queue.
Only the artwork goes to the screen. Your keys, balances, and everything else in the app stay on your phone.
Downloading artwork
Open the three-dot menu on an artwork you own or created and tap Download to device, then Save to Photos or Save to Files…. Download artworks in the menu of a collection, curation, or artist saves all of your pieces in it.
Hiding, reporting, and blocking
- Hide artwork removes one of your own artworks from your public profile. It stays in your wallet, and Unhide artwork brings it back.
- Report artwork, Report user, and Report curation send a report to mallow. Pick a reason and add a note if you want. Every report is reviewed by a person within 24 hours.
- Block user, in a profile's three-dot menu, hides that account's artworks, curations, offers, and notifications from you. The block is one-way and they aren't told about it. It doesn't stop them bidding on or buying your work, because that happens on-chain. Unblock in Settings → Security & Privacy → Blocked accounts.
Preferences
Settings → Preferences holds:
- Preferred Explorer: the block explorer the app opens for transactions and addresses. Solana: Solscan, Orb, Solana Explorer, or Solana Beach. Ethereum: Etherscan or Blockscout. Tezos always uses TzKT.
- App Theme: follow the system, or force dark or light mode.
- Priority Fee: see above.
- NSFW blur: on by default. Artworks marked NSFW stay blurred until you tap Reveal artwork. Switching the setting off shows them unblurred everywhere.
PIN, biometrics, and step-up authentication are covered in Security.
