Gumball and Jellybean

Collect from a Gumball or a Jellybean: what a random draw gives you, what it costs, what happens between paying and receiving the artwork, and what to do when a draw stalls.

A Gumball and a Jellybean both sell a random artwork from a pool. You pay the price, and the draw decides which artwork you get. You don't choose, and a draw can't be undone or refunded.

This page is for collectors. Creators should read Gumball and Jellybean.

The poolIndividual artworks. Each one is drawn onceEditions of several artworks, sometimes with 1/1s. An artwork with 50 copies can be drawn 50 times
What the draw picks fromEvery artwork still in the pool, with no weightingEvery copy still in the pool, so an artwork with more copies left comes up more often
Draws per purchaseOneUp to 10
After the drawDepends on the Gumball: the artwork is either minted straight to your wallet or waits for you to claim itYou claim it

The program picks the artwork from what is left at the moment your transaction lands on Solana. mallow adds its own signature to every draw and sends it after a short random delay, so a buyer can't time a draw to land on a particular artwork.

See what is in the pool

Gumball. The artworks are on the Gumball's page. Use the toggle under them to switch between one artwork at a time and a grid. The page shows how many have gone, for example 12 / 40 sold. An artwork that has been drawn carries a Sold tag, unless the creator chose to hide which ones have sold. In that case the tags appear when the sale ends.

Jellybean. Each artwork shows its rarity and the copies left out of its total, for example 37 / 50, then Sold out (or Sold for a 1/1). Rarity comes from how much of the Jellybean's total supply the artwork makes up:

RarityThe artwork is
MythicA 1/1
Legendary2% or less of the supply
Epic4% or less of the supply
Rare10% or less of the supply
Uncommon25% or less of the supply
CommonMore than 25% of the supply

Rarity is fixed, but your chance moves as copies are drawn. It's the artwork's copies left, divided by all copies left in the Jellybean.

Phases, allowlists and limits

A sale can open with allowlist phases before the public one. The page lists every phase with its name, its price and its status: Starts in, Live or Ended. The last phase is Public.

  • Eligibility: each phase has a lock icon. Hover over it to see whether the wallet you're signed in with can buy in that phase. If it can't, the button reads Wallet not eligible
  • Price: each phase can have its own price. You pay the price of the phase that is live when you draw
  • Wallet limit: a sale with a limit shows Wallet limit beside the sold count. Once you reach it, the button reads Wallet limit reached
  • Timing: a sale without phases shows Sale starts or Sale ends with a countdown. A sale also ends when the pool is empty (Sold out) or when the creator ends it (Sale ended)

Draws are paid from a Solana wallet. If you're signed in with a wallet from another chain, the button reads Switch to Solana wallet to buy.

What you pay

Shown asPaid in
The artworkPrice or Total cost on the page, Artwork cost under Fee detailsThe sale's token
MintingMint & transaction fee under Fee detailsSOL
A token burn, on some GumballsBurn on the page, Token burn under Fee detailsThe burn token
Solana's network feeCharged by your walletSOL

The Mint & transaction fee applies when the draw creates a new artwork: on a Jellybean, and on a Gumball that mints its artworks as they're drawn. It covers mallow's fee and what Solana charges to create the artwork. A phase priced at Free still charges it. Current amounts are on Fees.

A Gumball holding artworks that already exist mints nothing, so it shows only the Price. mallow's share of that sale comes out of the price, so nothing is added on top.

Where Total cost has a token menu, you can pay with another token your wallet holds, and mallow swaps it as part of the draw. This works the way it does for editions. See Paying with a different token. If you hold Cream, Use N Cream to pay for minting costs appears in the public phase.

Burn tokens per mint

A creator can require every draw to burn a set amount of a token. The Gumball then shows a Burn amount next to the Price, and the price itself can be Free.

  • The burn is taken from your wallet in the same transaction as the draw, and burned tokens are destroyed. Nobody receives them and they can't be recovered
  • You must already hold the token. A swap can't supply it. If you're short, the button reads You need followed by the amount
  • If the draw fails, nothing is burned

Drawing from a Gumball

Click Buy

If you're signed out, the button reads Sign in to collect.

Approve the transaction

One transaction pays the price and makes the draw. A window opens with Gumball machine is churning... while it confirms.

See what you got

The window changes to Congratulations! and names the artwork and its artist.

Collect it

What the buttons do depends on the Gumball:

  • The artwork was minted to you. It's already in your wallet. Buy another draws again, and Claim closes the window when no further draw is possible
  • The artwork already existed. It's reserved for your wallet and held by the Gumball until you click Claim and approve a second transaction

Drawing from a Jellybean

Click Buy and set the quantity

The Buy window opens. Set the Quantity, up to 10 or whatever your wallet limit and the remaining supply allow, and check Total cost.

Click Buy and approve

Each draw is its own transaction. The card on screen reads Preparing transaction... and then Confirming transaction...

Reveal

When the card lands it reads Tap card to reveal. Tap it to see the artwork.

Claim

Click Claim (or Claim All) and approve. The claim mints your edition, or transfers the 1/1, to your wallet.

If you close the window before claiming

Nothing is lost. The draw is recorded against your wallet. Go back to the Gumball's or Jellybean's page, where the button now reads Claim artwork (or Claim artworks). This still works after the sale has ended.

Gifting

After the reveal, Gift opens Gift artwork. Enter a Recipient by username, address or domain, add an optional Message, and click Send gift. The artwork goes to their wallet.

You can only gift an artwork once you've drawn it and seen the result. A Jellybean offers Gift only when you drew a single artwork, and a Gumball that collects shipping details shows Done in its place.

Where the artwork appears

Once minted or claimed, the artwork is in your wallet. It's listed under My Items on the Gumball's or Jellybean's page, and under Owned on your profile.

If a Gumball includes a physical piece and the creator asks for an address, the shipping form opens when you claim, or Add shipping details appears after the reveal. See Physicals.

If something goes wrong

What you seeWhat happened
Failed to purchase gumball or Failed to purchase JellybeanThe draw didn't complete. Payment and draw are one transaction, so the price isn't taken and nothing is drawn
The window closes or stalls after you approvedThe draw may still have gone through. Check My Items on the sale's page, and look for a Claim artwork button, before you draw again
Failed to send N transactionsSome of several Jellybean draws failed. You paid for, and can claim, only the ones that went through
Insufficient funds, need …Your wallet is short of the amount and token shown. Fees need SOL even when the price is in another token
Sales pausedmallow has paused draws on this Gumball while it reviews a recent purchase
Failed to claim artworkThe claim didn't go through. Your draw is still recorded. Try Claim artwork again

Refunds

There are none. A draw is final once its transaction confirms, whichever artwork it gives you. You can list the artwork for sale or gift it.

Sweepstake

A Sweepstake is a Gumball with a different mechanism. Instead of drawing on the spot, you enter during a set window by depositing the ticket price, one entry per wallet. When entries close, a draw picks the winning tickets. Winners receive an artwork from the Gumball. Every other entry has its deposit refunded, but not the entry fee or the network fee.

A Gumball running one is marked Sweepstake beside its artwork count. See Entering a Sweepstake.
