Fees

Every fee on mallow: what it is, who pays it and when, for selling, minting, collecting, swapping and staking.

A figure with a green dot is the current amount, read from mallow when you opened this page. A figure without one was correct when the page was last updated. Either way, mallow shows you the exact amounts before you sign a transaction.

What you pay falls into two groups, and this page keeps them apart:

  • mallow fees are what mallow charges: either a percentage of a sale or a small fixed amount in SOL
  • Solana network costs are what the network charges to run a transaction and store an artwork. None of that goes to mallow

Selling

Sale Fee

mallow takes a percentage of the price when an artwork sells at a fixed price, as an edition, through an accepted offer, or at auction. The seller pays it out of the sale price, so the buyer pays exactly the price they see.

Fixed price, editions and offersAuctions
First sale5%5%
Resale2.5%2.5%
First sale, priced in SMORES4%4%
Resale, priced in SMORES2%2%
  • A first sale is a creator selling their own artwork. A sale by any later owner is a resale
  • Programmable NFTs (pNFTs) and compressed NFTs always pay the resale rate
  • Listings and auctions priced in SMORES get 20% off the sale fee. The last two rows show the result
  • A listing or auction keeps the rate it was created with. If the rate changes later, only new listings use the new one
  • Making or cancelling an offer has no mallow fee. The sale fee applies when the owner accepts one, and the owner pays it

Royalties

A creator sets the royalty when minting: anywhere from 0% to 15%, shared between up to five wallets. mallow pays royalties on every resale it handles. Like the sale fee, they come out of the sale price.

How a Sale Is Split

Both the sale fee and the royalty are worked out from the full sale price.

Resale. An artwork resells for 10 SOL. The sale fee is 2.5% and the creator set a 5% royalty.

Amount
Buyer pays10 SOL
mallow sale fee (2.5%)− 0.25 SOL
Creator royalty (5%)− 0.5 SOL
Seller receives9.25 SOL

First sale. A creator sells a new artwork for 10 SOL at a 5% sale fee. mallow keeps 0.5 SOL and the other 9.5 SOL goes to the artwork's creators, divided by the shares set at minting. No royalty is taken, because the creators are the ones being paid.

The listing form shows the split for your artwork before you sign.

Gumball

See Gumball for how each mode works.

FeeAmountWho paysWhen
Sale fee5% of each saleThe seller, out of the priceAt each draw
Curator fee (collaborative Gumballs)0% to 10%, set by the curatorEach collaborator, out of what is left after the sale feeWhen proceeds are settled
Artwork storage (New artwork mode)$0.015 per MB uploaded, paid in SOLThe creatorWhen loading artworks
  • Creating a Gumball has no mallow fee. You pay Solana rent, which is returned after the sale
  • Pre-minted artworks pay royalties after the sale fee and curator fee: a creator's own artwork pays out in full to its creators, and a resold artwork pays its royalty percentage
  • The SMORES discount doesn't apply

Collectors pay a separate fee per draw on some Gumballs. See Gumball and Jellybean draws.

Sweepstake

A Sweepstake is a Gumball, so the 5% sale fee applies. It's taken only from winning tickets, because every other deposit is refunded.

Each collector who enters pays a 0.011 SOL entry fee, which is kept whether or not their ticket is selected. It's refunded only if the sweepstake is cancelled, is never drawn, or an entry is still unresolved 7 days after entries close.

Jellybean

See Jellybean.

FeeAmountWho paysWhen
Sale fee5% of each saleThe creator, out of the priceAt each draw
Print fee0.011 SOLThe collectorAt each draw that lands on an edition. A 1/1 has no print fee
  • The other 95% is paid straight to the wallets in your proceeds split at each draw
  • Creating a Jellybean has no mallow fee. You pay Solana rent, which is refundable
  • The SMORES discount doesn't apply

Raffle

Raffles run on the raffle program of mallow's partner, Famous Fox Federation, and that program sets these fees.

FeeAmountWho paysWhen
Raffle fee2.5% of ticket salesThe seller, out of the proceedsWhen proceeds are claimed
Holder-only mode1 SOLThe sellerWhen the raffle is created
  • Creating a raffle also takes a Solana rent deposit that grows with the ticket supply. It's returned when the raffle ends
  • Collectors pay the ticket price and nothing more
  • The SMORES discount doesn't apply

Minting and Editing

These are fixed amounts in SOL, paid by the creator.

FeeAmountWhen
Mint fee0.011 SOLEach time you mint an artwork, an edition or a collection
Edit fee0.005 SOLEach time you edit an artwork or a collection. Adding artworks to a collection, or removing them, is free
Airdrop fee0.005 SOLFor each edition sent in an airdrop

Minting also carries Solana network costs, which are shown beside the mallow fee before you sign.

Paying With Cream

Cream is mallow's minting credit. Paying with it covers the whole cost of a mint (the mallow fee and the Solana costs), so you spend no SOL.

  • A Core mint costs 1 Cream and a Legacy mint costs 3 Cream
  • Cream also pays for edits, airdrops, and the minting cost of collecting an edition or making a draw
  • A wallet holds at most 50 Cream
  • A free mint ticket, given to newly approved creators, covers one Core mint in the same way

Collecting

As a collector, you pay no mallow fee to buy an artwork at a fixed price, win an auction, make an offer or buy a raffle ticket. You pay the price and Solana's network fee. See Buying.

mallow adds a fee to the price in these cases:

Purchasemallow feeWhen
Edition0.011 SOL print feeFor each edition you collect
Gumball draw, New artwork mode0.011 SOL mint feeAt each draw
Jellybean draw0.011 SOL print feeAt each draw that lands on an edition
Sweepstake entry0.011 SOL entry feeWhen you enter
Magic Eden listing0.005 SOLFor each artwork you buy

These fees are paid in SOL, whatever token the artwork is priced in.

Gumball and Jellybean Draws

A draw that creates a new artwork shows a Mint & transaction fee. It's the mallow fee from the table above plus what Solana charges to create the artwork. A draw from a Gumball of pre-minted artworks has no mallow fee.

Magic Eden Listings

When you buy a Magic Eden listing through mallow, the price you see is the seller's price plus Magic Eden's 2% fee and the creator's royalty. mallow's 0.005 SOL fee is added on top and shown in the purchase window.

Swapping

Swapping tokens on mallow, on the web or in the mallow wallet, has a 0.5% fee. It's included in the quote you see, on top of any spread or routing cost from the exchange.

  • The same 0.5% applies when you pay for an artwork with a different token, because mallow swaps it for you
  • Sending, receiving and holding tokens in the wallet is free

Staking

There's no fee to stake or unstake. Instead, a share of the staking rewards is kept before they reach you:

Share of rewards keptBy
Native staking5%mallow's validator, as its commission
mallowSOL2.5%The mallowSOL stake pool

Converting between SOL and mallowSOL on the Stake page is a swap at the market rate. mallow adds no fee to it.

Solana Network Costs

None of these go to mallow. They're shown next to mallow's own fee so you see the full cost, and they're paid to the network and to Metaplex, the standard artworks are minted with.

  • Network fee. Every transaction pays one, in SOL. It's usually a fraction of a cent, and includes the priority fee you can set from the user menu
  • Account rent. Solana holds a small SOL deposit for every account it stores. Rent for something temporary, such as a listing, a raffle or a Gumball, comes back when it closes. Rent for the artwork itself stays with the artwork
  • Metaplex fee. Metaplex charges a small fee each time an artwork is created

The mint form estimates the last two for each new artwork:

Account rentMetaplex fee
Core 1/1 artwork0.0025 SOL0.0015 SOL
Core editions artwork or collection0.0015 SOL0.0015 SOL
Legacy artwork0.01 SOL0.01 SOL

Collecting an edition or drawing a new artwork creates one too, so its Mint & transaction fee includes rent and a Metaplex fee as well.
